The
Public Advisory Committee (PAC) was initially formed in 1997.
The PAC's mandate is to bring forestry-related issues to the attention
of the companies and to distribute information about forestry
and the PAC's role in forest planning and operations to members
of the general public.
The PAC has representation from a variety of industrial
and non-industrial stakeholders in the region and is always
looking for new members. Following the June 7th 2005 meeting,
it was agreed by PAC members that the Terms
of Reference (ToR) (160Kb PDF) be modified to include the
mandate of the Public Advisory Group (PAG), a group originally
assembled as part of the Companies' certification initiative
to the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Z809:02 certification
standard.
With the change, the PAC will become more involved
in the development of future Forest Management Plans (FMP's),
particularly in the identification of local-level Values, Objectives,
Indicators, and Targets (VOIT's) and will serve as the Public
Participation Group (PPG) as outlined in the Alberta Forest Management
Planning Standard (2005).
The PAC will also continue to help in monitoring
the effectiveness of both the public advisory process(s) and forest
management plans to ensure continual improvement.
