During planning, harvesting, and/or silvicultural
operations, the Companies will complete regular audits on operational
controls, processes, procedures, and practices consistent with
the Companies ISO14001: 1996 compliant Environmental Management
System (EMS).
The Companies’ EMS also outlines procedures
for internal audits which are to be completed annually to ensure
that operational planning and practices conform to the SFM requirements
as outlined in the CSA Z809-02 certification standard. The results
of these internal audits will also be made available to the Companies
management team and reviewed according to procedures outlined
in the EMS.
To become certified according to the CSA Z809-02
certification standard, the Companies are required to participate
and successfully complete independent third-party audits on the
SFM performance requirements. These certification audits, which
will be completed by qualified and accredited certifiers, are
completed in accordance with the CSA Z809-02 standard.
Following the successful completion of the initial
certification audit, the Companies will receive a certificate
of registration that will be retained until a re-certification
audit is completed.
To ensure continued compliance to the SFM performance
standards over the planning period, the Companies will also schedule
periodic surveillance audits between the initial certification
and recertification audits.
The Companies individually underwent their initial registration audits to the CSA Z809:02 standard on November 23-26 2004 and were successful at maintaining this certification during a re-registration audit on January 8-11, 2007. These audit results, as well as those from the periodic surveillance audits, can be made available to the public by contacting
or by phoning Jeremy Beal at 780-926-8918.
